Description
The Post Office at 218 Queen Street in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, was designed by W T Oldrieve of the Office of Works and completed in 1907. This building is a single and two-storey, L-shaped structure with six bays, featuring classical detailing. It is constructed with ashlar and dry dash, topped with a slate roof.
On the northeast elevation, the façade is primarily ashlar with a keystoned doorpiece on the far left, flanked by pilasters and a segmental hood. The letters E and R are displayed in panels above the door. To the right, there are paired windows, followed by three additional windows further along. The first floor has six windows aligned with those below.
The east elevation is mostly covered in dry dash, featuring two windows on both the ground and first floors in a flat-roofed bay on the left. There are two tripartite windows in a single-storey section at the far left, while the main block of the south range extends to the left with three windows at the left return gables.
The west elevation also features dry dash, with a door at the ground floor and a window above on the first floor. The south range is recessed on the right side, including a loading bay, door, windows, and overhanging eaves.
On the south elevation, there is one window on the ground floor to the left and two on the first floor, with the windows being nine-pane and twelve-pane sash and case, respectively.
