Juniper Cottage, Main Street, Garvald

Juniper Cottage is a mid-19th century pair of single-storey, symmetrical cottages located on Main Street in Garvald. The cottages are constructed of squared and snecked red sandstone, with stugged ashlar dressings. The north elevation features a central door for each cottage, with the remains of former gabled porches still visible. Single windows are present in the inner bays, and timber mullioned bipartites in the outer bays; these may have been enlarged from original single windows. The end gables are blank. Each window has a 12-pane glazing pattern within sash and case frames. The roof is covered with grey slates, incorporating raised ashlar skews and gable end and mutual gable stacks. Juniper Cottage sits directly on Main Street, with the Papana Burn located close behind to the south. The statutory address is Brookside and Juniper Cottage, Main Street, Garvald.
