Ashlea And Kirkview, Duns Road, Gifford

Ashlea and Kirkview is an early 18th century, two-storey, five-bay house that has been subdivided and is part of a terraced pair. The exterior is made of pointed red rubble sandstone with some retained ashlar dressings, while the northern (street) front has been cement rendered and lined.

The northern elevation is symmetrical, featuring a centrally located door that has likely been heightened and includes a strip fanlight. There are low windows in the flanking bays, as well as additional windows under the eaves on the first floor.

The eastern gable wall, which faces The Wynd, is largely blank and has two attic windows at the apex, one of which is blocked. The glazing pattern consists of two-pane glass for the upper sashes and plate glass for the lower sashes. The steeply pitched roof is covered with pantiles and has a deep slate easing course, along with gable end stacks. The house displays a distinctive East Lothian skew formation.
