Description

Lauder's Emporium, located at 45-55 King Street in Kilmarnock, is a three-storey, seven-bay commercial property built in 1923, showcasing an inter-war classical style. The ground floor features a modern shop front, while the upper floors are characterized by superimposed banded rusticated strip pilasters with blind cartouches at the ends. The central section has plain strip pilasters adorned with floral wreath carvings, and there is a band course at the first floor level. The building is topped with a cornice, overhanging eaves featuring medallions, and a stepped central pediment.

The main elevation is divided into three primary bays by strip pilasters. Each outer bay contains four windows—two on the first floor and two above—with a broad cast-iron band between them. The central bay has six windows arranged in the same pattern. This window pattern continues for one bay on the left return. The west elevation features a five-bay brick extension, while the north and south elevations are adjoining buildings.
