Description

7 Bank Street in Kilmarnock is a mid-19th century, three-storey, three-bay building featuring a later pilastered shop front on the ground floor. The exterior is made of harled and painted coursed rubble, with painted ashlar sills, angle, and window margins, as well as eaves, a cornice, and a blocking course.

On the principal elevation (southeast), the ground floor shop front is divided by architraved timber pilasters, with a single engaged pilaster at each end. The angled plate glass shop front is set back behind the pilasters and includes a central door; to the left of the shop front is a panelled timber door with a small rectangular fanlight above it. The first and second floors are regularly fenestrated, featuring a projecting cornice and a parapet that conceals the roofline above.

The northeast and southwest elevations are adjacent to 9 Bank Street on the left and 3 and 5 Bank Street (also listed) on the right. The front elevation has replacement 12-pane timber sash and case windows. There is a concealed parapet gutter, and while the roof is not visible, there are yellow brick stacks at the center of the north and south elevations, although the cans are now missing.

Inside, the ground floor is currently used as a retail unit, while the upper residential and storage floors are accessed through a doorway to the left of the shop front. The building has been fully renovated throughout.
