Dr Alexander Marshall Monument, Howard Park, Howard Park Drive, Kilmarnock

The Dr Alexander Marshall Monument, located in Howard Park, Kilmarnock, was erected in 1899 as a sandstone memorial. It features a stepped plinth and a square base adorned with attached columns and ball finials. A string course and panels are present, one of which bears the inscription: 'Alexander Marshall MD Born 17th February 1827 Died 16th April 1894. For 42 Years in practice in Kilmarnock. A Skilful Physician Devoted to Duty. This Memorial of a singularly pure and unselfish life of usefulness erected by public subscription 1896. To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.' The shaft of the monument is composed of four Corinthian attached columns with chamfered bases, topped by a short shaft that supports a statue of Hygeia, the Goddess of Health.
