Description

Howard Park House is an early 20th-century Park Keeper's dwelling in Kilmarnock, built by Andrew McGregor. This single-storey, L-plan house features a simplified Arts and Crafts style. It is constructed of red brick with half-timbering on the gables and has heavy plain painted bargeboards.

The south elevation has a later railed ramp leading to a door in a canted three-sided porch. To the left of the door is a small squared window, and to the right is a half-timbered gable end. This side also features a three-light canted bay window that supports a cyma reversa bracketed load-bearing beam, with a semi-harled and painted half-timbered gable above, topped with heavy plain bargeboards.

On the east elevation, there is a window with a security shutter to the left, and a single-storey extension in the center that includes a central window and paired timber gates at a right angle to the left.

The north elevation has later brick additions that are hidden behind high hedges. The west elevation shows regular fenestration to the left and a half-timbered gable end to the right, similar to the south elevation, with a three-light canted bay window and a semi-harled and painted half-timbered gable above.

The original glazing plan is concealed behind modern metal security blinds housed in metal boxes, and the entrance door has been similarly treated. The roof is piended with red tiles and matching terracotta ridge tiles, featuring overhanging half-timbered piended gables with painted harled sections. The rainwater goods have been replaced, and there is a tall square red brick moulded chimney stack with a projecting neck cope and a single can.

The interior was not seen in 2001.
