Description
72 Main Street is a later 18th century cottage with some alterations and an early 20th century addition at the rear. It is a single-storey and attic building consisting of a 3-bay cottage (No 72) and an adjoining 2-bay cottage (No 74). The cottages feature 20th century gabled dormers in the attic and ridge stacks. The exterior is finished with roughcast render and has painted ashlar margins, projecting cills, and raised margins around the windows and doors.
No 72 has a timber panelled door, while No 74 has a half-glazed timber panelled door. Both cottages have bipartite windows and dormers in the attic. The gable of No 74 is slate-hung.
The windows in No 74 are timber sash and case style, with 2-pane glazing in the upper sashes and plate glass in the lower sashes. No 72 has late 20th century glazing that follows a similar pattern, as do the dormers. The rendered stacks have assorted yellow clay cans, and the roofs are covered with graded grey slate. The property also features cast-iron rainwater goods.
