The Auld Hoose, 70 Main Street

The Auld Hoose, located at 68 Main Street, is a public house dating from the later 18th century, with some alterations and additions made in the 19th and late 20th centuries, particularly at the rear. It is a single storey and attic structure featuring three bays for the public house (No 68) and an adjoining two-bay cottage (No 70). The building has a bell-cast roof, with early 20th century gabled dormers in the attic and ridge stacks.

The exterior is finished in painted roughcast render, accented with painted ashlar margins and raised margins around the windows and doors. The entrance to No 68 has a two-leaf timber-boarded door, while No 70 features a timber panelled door. There is also a modern timber boarded door on the outer right. The attic includes two dormers with plain bargeboards.

Most of the glazing is predominantly non-traditional, from the late 20th century. The building has corniced, rendered stacks with ashlar margins, topped with octagonal yellow clay cans. The roof is covered with graded grey slate.
