Description
The Sir James Shaw Statue, created by sculptor James Fillians in 1848, is located on London Road in Kilmarnock. The statue was re-sited in 1929. It features a Carrara marble figure of Sir James Shaw, which stands on a moulded pedestal and a stepped plinth, with a later added paved concrete tiered base.
The principal elevation includes two wide, modern steps leading up to a two-course granite base. The tall, square pedestal has a bowed front and rear, with an inscription on the front bow that reads: "SIR JAMES SHAW BART, Lord Mayor of London 1805. Born 26th August 1765. Died 22 October 1843. Erected 4th August 1848." The figure of James Shaw is depicted in period dress and mayoral robes, holding a scroll in his right hand while lifting his robe with his left.
