Description

James Miller, 1927. Sculptor, David McGill. 3-bay, rectangular-plan stripped classical sepulchre. Polished yellow sandstone ashlar. Base course; banded rusticated architrave, frieze, entablature, cornice with dentilled soffit, run across 3 elevations and carrying large, blind parapet.

SE (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: slightly projecting elevation; recessed central entrance with access steps and ramp; glazed 2-leaf door with fanlight; fluted Ionic columns in antis; flanking bays with Doric pilasters; single rectangular windows to each bay.

SW ELEVATION: single rectangular window in centre.

NW (REAR) ELEVATION: blind.

NE ELEVATION: single rectangular window in centre.

Geometric patterned metal guard to windows and door.

INTERIOR: marble cross in centre of stone laid floor; bronze statue of 'Victor' at centre of rear wall; inscribed plaque above statue: 'In everlasting memory of the men and women of Kilmarnock who gave their lives in the service of their country'; memorial name boards flanking to left and right.
