Description
This milestone, located southwest of 18 London Road in Kilmarnock, dates from the earlier 19th century. It has a plain rectangular shape and is made of tooled ashlar stone. The milestone features carved Baskerville letters and numerals.
On the west elevation, which is the principal side, the milestone is positioned next to a boundary wall, with the lowest row of writing partially hidden by a low wall. The inscription reads "Kilmarnock" with a directional arrow pointing to the right, indicating a distance of 2 furlongs and 63 yards. To the left, it indicates "Grassyards" with a directional arrow and a distance of 4 miles and 154 yards.
