Description

James Miller, 1931. 8-storey commercial building, modern

classical, 3 bays. Giant fluted Ionic pilasters in antis

through ground and 1st floors; projecting simply

architraved central entrance bay; casement windows with

metal glazing bars. Plain 2nd floor entablature with

plain 2nd floor windows resting on cornice. 3rd floor

cill band; 3rd to 6th floor windows vertically linked

with bronze panels between; bays, divided by pilaster

strips. 7th floor balcony on sculpted corbels. Fluted

frieze with rosettes and bold cornice.

INTERIOR: some original furniture and fittings including

panelled board room on top floor.

REAR ELEVATION: glazed brick W return: brick; balconies

at top floor in 1st 2 bays. Boundary railings on low

wall with piers.
