Description
149 St Vincent Street in Glasgow is an 8-storey commercial building designed by James Miller in 1931, showcasing a modern classical style with three bays. The ground and first floors feature giant fluted Ionic pilasters in antis, with a centrally located entrance bay that projects simply and is framed with an architrave. The building has casement windows with metal glazing bars. A plain entablature marks the second floor, where the windows rest on a cornice. There is a cill band on the third floor, and the windows from the third to the sixth floors are vertically linked with bronze panels, separated by pilaster strips. The seventh floor includes a balcony supported by sculpted corbels, and the building is topped with a fluted frieze adorned with rosettes and a bold cornice.
Inside, some original furniture and fittings remain, including a panelled board room on the top floor. The rear elevation features a glazed brick return and brickwork, with balconies in the first two bays at the top floor. Boundary railings are present on a low wall with piers.
