Description

145 St Vincent Street in Glasgow is a modern classical office block designed by Frank Burnet and Boston, built between 1931 and 1932. The building has seven storeys and a basement, featuring a layout of five by six bays, arranged as 1-3-1 on St Vincent Street and 1-4-1 on Wellington Street. It has a steel frame faced with red sandstone.

At the ground and first floors, there is a giant order of stylised Greek Doric columns and antae set on a continuous granite podium, which has fluted panels between the floors. The entrance on the east bay at St Vincent Street is framed with an architrave and features an oakleaf surround and keyblock, with a sculpted coat of arms above it. A bold cornice runs over the first floor.

The upper floors have windows that are divided by giant pilaster strips, with narrow outer bays that include window aprons at clasping angles. The main cornice is adorned with a dentil band and coupled flat consoles at the angles. The die walls facing St Vincent Street are ornamented, and there are wrought-iron balusters and lamp standards featuring carved griffins on plinths.
