Description

147 St Vincent Street in Glasgow is a free classical commercial building designed by W Hunter McNab (Leiper and McNab) around 1904-1905. The structure is built of ashlar and consists of six storeys, including a basement that faces Wellington Street. It features a façade with three rows of seven bays.

The ground floor has an arched design with a cill band and includes three-light windows facing St Vincent Street and two-light windows on Wellington Street. There is a prominent double doorpiece with pilasters and recessed, double arched entrances. The first floor showcases bipartite windows with column mullions, while the outer bays on St Vincent Street have shouldered windows set in panels on the second floor.

Giant Roman Doric columns, supported by corbels, rise through the third and fourth floors. The third floor also features keyblocked arched recesses in the central bay on St Vincent Street and in all bays on Wellington Street. The attic has simple bipartite windows. The building is adorned with sash and case windows that have glazing bars, with eight panes in the upper sash and two in the lower. A projecting main modillion cornice crowns the structure, and the sixth floor has bipartite windows separated by pilasters. The building is topped with a die parapet. Additionally, No 68 St Vincent Lane is connected to No 89 Wellington Street by arched gangways.
