Description

Wellington Buildings, located at 103-113 Bath Street in Glasgow, is a classical commercial building dated 1878. It stands three stories tall with an attic and occupies a corner site, featuring 13 by 9 bays. The exterior is made of polished ashlar, with a channelled ground floor above a basement cornice. The ground floor has been largely altered for modern shops on the north side, while the original southern entrance bays lead to Wellington Street.

The building has a double entry at Nos 134 and 136 Wellington Street, which is pilastered with filleted necking, a continuous dentil cornice, and the lettering "WELLINGTON BUILDINGS" in the frieze. The entrance on Bath Street is plain, with a frieze, cornice, and parapet above in the central three-bay section. It features low basement windows and plain windows above, primarily consisting of plate glass, with single-pane windows that are etched at the lower part and set in architraves.

Additional architectural details include a ground floor cornice, a moulded cill band on the first floor with consoled, corniced windows, and a moulded cill band on the second floor. The building has a plain eaves entablature with a modillion cornice and a pierced balustrade, which is interrupted by block pedimented dormers. These dormers are raised with console keyblocks and segmental pediments at the ends and corner, topped with French pavilion roofs. The building also features a corniced ridge and end stacks, all covered by a slate roof.
