Description

137, 139, 141, and 143 Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow is a five-storey and attic Edwardian Baroque commercial building designed by John Keppie of Honeyman and Keppie in 1904. The ground floor features modern shops and the building has five main bays. It is constructed of ashlar stone, with the outer bays advanced and canted, rising from the first to the third floor. All windows are sash and case, set within architraves that include multi-pane upper sashes.

The first floor has a sculpted frieze in the canted bays, which is repeated on the second floor. The central bays feature single lights in lugged architraves, with sculpted tympana in triangular and segmental pediments above. The second floor has three two-light windows set in a continuous architrave, with Roman Ionic central mullions. The third floor windows are adorned with Gibbs surrounds and a corbelled cornice above.

On the fourth floor, there are three arched and keystoned windows with a wrought-iron balustrade, while the outer bays have plain architraved windows with escutcheons. The building is topped with an eaves dentil cornice, and the attic storey over the outer bays features pedimented windows in Gibbs surrounds, framed by banded columns and open segmental pediments.
