Description

23 Guildhall Street in Dunfermline is an early 20th-century terraced tenement block that has been altered. It stands three stories tall with an attic and features five bays, with shops located on the ground floor. The building showcases a Free Edwardian Baroque style, characterized by radiating keyblocks and a curved pediment above the central first-floor window on the east elevation. The exterior is finished in polished ashlar and includes a mutuled eaves cornice. The first and second-floor windows have moulded surrounds, with the second-floor windows featuring roll-moulding.

On the east elevation, there is a central entrance with a moulded surround and an elongated triple keyblock, leading to a panelled timber door topped with a rectangular fanlight. Flanking the entrance are modern shopfronts, each with moulded surrounds and cavetto-moulded lintels that include central inverted keyblocks. The first-floor window is adorned with a lugged architrave and an elongated triple keyblock, topped with a curved Baroque pediment. Each remaining bay has windows on all floors, and there is a flat-headed five-light dormer above the eaves, dating from the late 20th century.

The building features 2-light timber sash and case windows and has a grey slate roof, with a coped gablehead stack on the north side and round cans.
