Description

46-50 Vicar Street in Falkirk is a small tenement building dated 1887, which has been altered over time. It stands three stories high and features three bays, showcasing classical detailing. The building is constructed from ashlar stone with rusticated quoins. Architectural features include a cornice at the first floor, a bracketed cill course at the second floor, and an eaves cornice. The windows are architraved, with those on the first floor having cornices and stone mullions.

On the east elevation, the central bay at the ground floor has a pilastered doorpiece with a mutule segmental fanlight, a part-glazed panelled timber door, and a small fascia above. Flanking the central door are traditional shops, each with deep-set, in-canted doors and fixed display windows. The shop on the left includes a cast-iron column and decorative cast-iron details. The first floor has a single window in the center and altered flanking windows, with a satellite dish on the outer left. The second floor features a single window in the center and flanking bipartite windows. Above, there is a dated, shouldered wallhead stack at the center.

The building has modern glazing and a roof covered in grey slates. The wallhead stack is banded and coped with ashlar, while the gablehead stack is harled and coped, both with cans.

Inside, shop numbers 46-48 feature decorative plasterwork cornices and friezes.
