Description

J L Cowan, 1895. Free classical, 3-storey and attic (altered

to double attic), 8 unequal bays. Polished red ashlar. Mainly

sash and case windows.

Wide entrance flanked by pilasters in W bay. Ground floor

cill band, arched windows with moulded archivolts, imposts in

4 E bays. Ground floor cornice, bracketted over E bays and W

bay. 1st floor windows corniced, wrought-iron balustrades

with panelled die in outer bays, cill band. Canted window

rising from 1st to 2nd floor in 2nd bay from E. 2nd floor

windows, flanked by piers over entrance, parapet over.

Sculpture in niches flanking canted bay, flanking piers.

Main cornice, with modillions in E bays; 2 richly sculpted

dormer gables above, bell-cast roof over canted E angle bay.

3-bay ashlar E return with simplified detailing.
