Description

14, 16, 18 Bothwell Street in Glasgow is a three-storey and basement commercial terrace block designed by Alexander Kirkland and John Bryce in 1849. Originally, the building was symmetrical with advanced pavilions at the center and ends, but the western pavilion has since been demolished. The structure features a heavily restored ashlar arcaded Corinthian ground floor with modern shops added. The bays are arranged in a stepped pattern of 7-5-7 along the slope. The first five bays from the east have an advanced ground floor mutule cornice. All windows are sash and case within architraves, with the first-floor windows corniced and consoled in the outer bays. The building has a plain eaves entablature, a dentil band, a modillion cornice, sculpted lion heads, and a balustraded parapet with stone piers that break forward. The ground floor frontages of Nos 2-18 are replicas.

The elevation facing Hope Street consists of ten bays that repeat the arrangement of the outer bays seen in Bothwell Street.
