Description
The statue of Sir Robert Clayton is located on a terrace approximately 220 meters to the west of Harleyford Manor. It was erected in 1714 and is made of stone. The statue features a rectangular pedestal with a moulded base and cornice, and has moulded inscription panels on the sides. The front of the pedestal is carved with two putti holding a wreathed coat-of-arms of the City of London. The life-size figure of Sir Robert Clayton is depicted in the robes and chain of office of the Lord Mayor of London. An inscription on the statue notes that it was erected by the Governor of Christ's Hospital, London, to honor Clayton as a benefactor of the new workhouse there. The statue was moved from its original site at the hospital, likely around 1900.
