Description

Ladye Place is a large house, likely dating from the 16th century, with substantial rebuilding in the 18th century and alterations in the 20th. It has a brick exterior and an old tile hipped roof. The building is rectangular in plan and extends over two storeys and into a cellar. There are three brick chimneys at the rear, each with offset heads and clay pots. A moulded wooden eaves cornice, featuring modillions, runs around the building. The windows are wooden casements, many with decorative lead glazing.

The south front is irregular in appearance. A full-height, projecting gabled entrance porch, tiled on its exterior, features an oriel window on the first floor, with ornamental rendered detailing and carved brackets. The entrance door is set back within an elaborate wooden frame of turned columns and a carved frieze. The first floor has two two-light windows to the left of the porch, and three two-light and two three-light windows to the right, all with segmental-arched heads. On the ground floor, there is one six-light window on either side of the porch, and a two-bay window with a hipped roof to the right.

Inside, a large fireplace in the dining room remains from the earlier, 16th-century building. Ladye Place was constructed on the site of a former priory. The Chapter House and Priory Close, which adjoin the property on the north side, are listed separately.
