Description

Lochee Park Lodge and Gates, located at 46 Ancrum Road in Dundee, was designed by Johnston and Baxter in 1890. This two-storey, asymmetrical gothic lodge features a layout of two bays by one bay, constructed from squared and snecked rubble with ashlar dressings. The lodge has buttressed angles and gatepiers at the northern entrance to Lochee Park.

The northeast elevation showcases an advanced octagonal stair-tower with a pointed arched door. Above the door is a hoodmoulded cast-iron plaque inscribed with "Lochee Park The Gift of Cox Brothers 1890." The octagonal top stage of the tower has blind arcaded panels, and it is topped with a prismatic roof covered in fish-scale slates and a wrought-iron finial. To the right, there is a canted bay featuring four transomed and cusped lights, along with a castellated parapet. Above this bay, a gabletted cross-window with a blind quatrefoil and flanking gargoyles interrupts the eaves.

On the sides and rear, each gable includes two hoodmoulded cross-windows and a Fleur de lis finial. There is a modern single-storey extension at the rear, and the roof is slate with ridge tiles and a central stack. The windows are sash and case, with two panes below the transoms. The low boundary wall has had its railings and gates removed, but it features square-section chamfered piers with pyramidal caps. Additionally, there are four square-section gatepiers, which are buttressed to the north and south and topped with gabletted pyramidal caps. This lodge is significant as it relates to the town's largest manufacturing employers.
