141, 143 Nethergate, Dundee

141 and 143 Nethergate in Dundee is a late 18th century tenement building that stands three storeys high with an attic and originally had four storeys. During the 19th century, the ground floor public house was raised to become the first floor. The building is constructed of random rubble with ashlar dressings and has a rendered side and rear, topped with a grey slate roof. The ground floor features a 19th century cornice, and there are margined angles to the left and between the first and second bays from the right, where the right bay recedes. The windows are margined with the original 12-pane timber sash and case glazing pattern, and there are multi-pane canted dormers. The building also has ashlar-coped skews and skewblocks, as well as a gable and wallhead stack.

On the front elevation, the ground floor has a corniced and consoled public house front that has been restored in a sympathetic style. There are four windows on the first and second floors, a cut-down wallhead stack, and two dormers.

The left return gable features a margined window on the ground floor that was inserted around 1985 to replace a larger shop window, while an older margined window is located on the top floor along with a gable stack.

The rear elevation includes a central near-hexagonal four-storey stair tower with a forestair leading to the first floor. This stair may have been heightened in the 19th century to provide access to the attic. There are squint windows at the right re-entrant angle, and the ground and first floor windows have been blocked.

The interior of the building has not been seen.
