Description
37-39 Fort Street in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, is a mid-19th century, two-storey building with an attic that serves as a shop and flats. The structure features coursed stonework with polished margins and a slate roof. The shopfronts are rendered, lined, and painted, and there is a moulded cornice with dentils above the shop area. The first floor has 12-pane sash and case windows.
On the Fort Street elevation, there is a shopfront on the left, a recessed central door with iron gates, and flanking plate-glass windows, with a modern door on the right. The first floor has two windows, and the gable on the left has a skew gable with a skewputt and a truncated harled gable stack, while a rubble ridge capped stack is located on the right. The right gable features two plate-glass windows, flanked by Doric pilasters, and a cut-back canted corner. There are two widely spaced windows on the first floor, a band course, and a small offset window in the attic, along with skew gables and skewputts.
The King Street elevation includes a two-leaf panelled door at the angle, with scrolled corbelling leading to the first floor. There are four bays on the right, with a two-leaf panelled door in the second bay from the right. The other bays feature plate-glass windows and five sets of paired Doric pilasters. The first floor has three windows, and there are two canted bays in the attic, along with a coped ridge stack on the right and terracotta ridge tiles.
