Kandahar House, 71-83 Meadowside, Dundee

Kandahar House, located at 71-83 Meadowside in Dundee, is an earlier 20th-century, two-storey and attic commercial building with a quadrant-like plan and 17 bays. It features shops on the ground floor and is situated on a prominent corner site. The exterior is constructed of red sandstone ashlar and topped with a slate Mansard roof. Notable architectural details include a corniced ground floor, an eaves band, and a corniced wallhead. The building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows with checked and chamfered margins, and there are plain raised square panels between the windows at lintel level, along with flat-roofed 12-pane dormers.

The front elevation includes a two-leaf door on the right, framed by a moulded doorcase set in a deeply splayed opening with a large keystone. Above this door is a small keystoned segmental stair window, and on the first floor, there is a large 16-pane stair window set within a round-headed panel that features a consoled ashlar balcony. An attic window with a mannered lintel is located above the flat-roofed margined stair tower. To the left, there are eight shopfronts that have been slightly altered but still retain original elements. The first floor has 16 windows, and there are 16 dormers.

Inside, the entrance hall boasts a terrazzo floor, marble lining, and a door with sidelights and a round-headed fanlight.
