India Buildings, 2 Victoria Road, Dundee

India Buildings, located at 2 Victoria Road in Dundee, was designed by John Murray Robertson in 1874 and extended in 1876 to include No 4 Victoria Road. This three-storey and basement commercial block showcases a distinctive style reminiscent of Alexander "Greek" Thomson, featuring an ashlar exterior with incised Greek details, while the sides and rear are constructed of brick.

The elevation facing Bell Street is symmetrical with five bays. The center and outer bays have single-light windows, while the inner bays feature three-light windows. A central battered doorpiece is adorned with a pediment and acroteria on small, flanking recessed pilasters. The ground floor and basement are plain, while the first and second floor windows are recessed, with an incised anthemion band at the first floor. The windows have pilastered mullions, and the second floor is also pilastered. An anthemion frieze, cornice, and parapet complete the design, with a curved three-light angle.

The elevation to Victoria Road consists of seven bays, alternating between single and three-light windows, and is similarly detailed. However, No 4 does not have a basement. The entrance features an architrave lined with paterae, and the mullions have been altered at the first floor in the third bay from the right.

The elevations to the Ring Road and the rear display a blind brick gable, with yellow brick and ashlar window dressings at the rear. The building is topped with slate roofs and ashlar ridge stacks. The windows are sash and case with a two-pane glazing pattern, and decorative wrought-iron bars are present in the basement windows.

Inside, the offices are arranged off two light wells, each featuring flagged platforms supported by cast-iron columns and rolled steel joists. The interior also boasts fine cast and wrought-iron stair balusters.
