Guardian Royal Exchange Assurance Group, Panmure Street, Dundee

The Guardian Royal Exchange Assurance Group building, located on Panmure Street in Dundee, was designed by Gauldie, Hardie, Wright and Needham and constructed between 1955 and 1957. This commercial building features four storeys and an attic at the front, with an additional five storeys at the rear, showcasing a Festival of Britain style. The ground floor is clad in channelled ashlar effect, while the upper floors have paler ashlar panels and a flat roof. It has a dark base course and a banded fascia panel above the ground floor. The wallhead is coped and includes a plain metal balustrade. The windows are margined, with metal top-hoppers over a casement glazing pattern. The penthouse has shallow-pitched projecting windows, and the front elevation features three sets of doors and twelve windows on the ground floor, paired doors flanked by four windows in the recessed bays above, and six windows on each side at every floor. The penthouse has three paired windows alternating with four projecting windows. The interior has not been seen.
