Ladywell Tavern, 16 Victoria Road, Dundee

The Ladywell Tavern, located at 16 Victoria Road in Dundee, is a former brewery built in 1875 by B Thomson and Sons (Engineers, Leith). This five-storey building features a shallow concave frontage made of coursed squared rubble, with channelled pilaster strips at the string courses. The main brewhouse was originally a symmetrical three-bay design, with the outer bays containing bipartite windows. The first-floor windows are pilastered, the second-floor windows are supported by scrolls, the third-floor windows have cornices, and the fourth-floor windows feature incised carvings on the cills. The lintels are integrated into the main entablature.

The ground floor has been altered around 1950. The left-hand bay was originally only two storeys high, with two arched windows on each level, but it was later raised to full height with tripartite windows on the upper floors, designed in a similar style. The ground floor is modern. The building has a slate roof, and the windows are sash and case with a two-pane glazing pattern. Ornate wrought iron grilles adorn the first-floor round-headed brewery windows. The interior of the public house is relatively modern, and the lower two floors are constructed with fireproof materials.
