Description

17 Baxter Park Terrace in Dundee is a building designed by George Gordon MacLaren around 1890. It consists of two four-storey, four-bay tenements constructed from coursed rubble, featuring flat relief concrete details. The rear of the building is also made of rubble.

The elevation facing Baxter Park Terrace has a central door with a keystone and cornices, while the canted end bays are adorned with concrete and a semi-circular device on the first floor. Ornate wrought-iron balconies extend from the canted bays. Number 18 is symmetrical with a central shouldered wallhead stack, whereas Number 17 has more widely spaced features. The elevation facing Park Avenue is simpler, with single and bipartite lights and a wallhead stack. The building has a slate roof, with rubble-built ridge and wallhead stacks. The windows are sash and case, featuring a two and four-pane glazing pattern. The original rainwater goods are present on Nos 18 and 35, but not on Number 17.

Inside, there is a stone-flagged stairway with cast-iron columns and barley-sugar balusters, along with majolica tiles. The property is enclosed by low coped boundary walls.
