Description

49-53 South Tay Street in Dundee is a terraced house built around 1820. It has three storeys and three bays, constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings. The ground floor is cement rendered, while the gable and rear additions are dry-dashed, topped with a slate roof. The building features pilastered angles and a band course at the ground floor, an eaves course, and margined four-pane timber sash and case windows. The skews are ashlar-coped with skewblocks, and there are rubble axial stacks along with prominent modern roof vents.

On the front elevation, the central window is formed from a door with a pilastered and corniced doorpiece, flanked by windows on the left and right that were formerly shop windows. There are three windows on both the first and second floors.

The left return elevation has one window on each floor at the gable to the right and two windows on each floor at the gable to the left.

The rear elevation features a prominent gabled wing with modern additions. The interior has not been seen.
