Description
Rotchell House, located at 29 Rotchell Road in Dumfries, is a building from the later 18th century that was originally symmetrical but has undergone significant alterations over time. It is two storeys high and features three bays. The exterior is made of painted coursed rubble with raised margins around the windows. The original window openings remain in the right bay and above the door, but they have been reglazed with plate glass. A full-height canted bay was added to the left side in the later 19th century. The central door is concealed by a Greek Doric porch with a pediment, which dates from around 1830 and was removed from a mid steeple before being reused at this location in 1910. The roof is slate, likely raised, with straight skews and end stacks.
