Forres, 29 St Leonard's Road, The Elms

The Elms, located at 29 St Leonard's Road in Forres, is a building from the later 18th century. It features two storeys and an attic, with three wide bays, including a slightly advanced and pedimented central bay. The exterior is made of coursed rubble with an ashlar band course and window and angle margins. The entrance includes a wide keyblocked elliptical arched doorway with a double leaf panelled door, which is later complemented by a timber porch supported on two pairs of shafts with a basket arched head. Above, there is a key-blocked basket arch over a pilastered window on the first floor. The building has two piended dormers, 12-pane sash windows, and a semi-circular stair turret at the rear topped with a semi-conical roof. The roof is finished with wallhead panelled stacks and piended slate.

In around 1965, a single storey, two-bay rubble garage wing was added to the right side of the building.

Inside, the first-floor drawing room features an enriched plaster ceiling, along with fielded panelled window shutters and doors. The house and garden are enclosed by coped rubble walls.
