Erskine Church, Townhead, Langholm

Erskine Church, located in Townhead, Langholm, is a Gothic church designed by architect R Baldie of Glasgow and dated 1867. The building features a square tower topped with a broach spire, constructed from coursed stugged ashlar with polished dressings, buttresses, strings, and hood-moulds. The main gabled elevation faces High Street and has a rectangular plan.

The nave includes an arcaded triple doorway flanked by columns, with deeply recessed doors that have cusped heads. Above the doorway is a tall window adorned with cusped tracery. The aisles are shallowly recessed, with the left (north) aisle designed as the bottom stage of the tower. The second stage of the tower is unusually tall, featuring an elongated 2-light window with a rose window above. The stone spire is lucarned, and the skews are finished with gableted skewputts, while the roof is continuously slated. The flanks of the building have pointed lights.
