Imperial Hotel, 35 King Street, Castle Douglas

The Imperial Hotel, located at 35 King Street in Castle Douglas, is a mid-19th century, two-storey inn. It is constructed of painted coursed rubble and features smooth rusticated quoins. The building has a seven-bay street elevation that includes a central depressed arch pend with bold voussoirs and rusticated jambs, along with a single light window positioned above. On either side of this central feature, there are symmetrical three-bay elevations with central doorways. All openings are adorned with architraves and hoodmoulds, while the single light windows are fitted with four-pane sashes. The door to the left has a modern projecting hood.

A band course runs along the first floor cills, and there is a moulded eaves cornice. The building is topped with corniced axial stacks that have octagonal cans, flat skews, and slate roofs, along with a bowed dormer on the left side.
