Description

This is an early to earlier 19th-century walled garden of a rectangular plan. It is constructed of rubble with semicircular coping along the top of the walls. A decorative wrought-iron gate is set within an opening in the south wall, flanked by substantial rubble square piers. The westernmost pier features a ball finial. An opening is also present on the north side, and a doorway is located on the east side. A potting shed, dating to circa 1900, is situated in the southeast corner of the garden along the south wall. The potting shed is built of rubble, with brick detailing, and has a slate piended roof. It features lattice-pane glazing in its window to the left. The stables, listed separately, adjoin the east wall to the northeast, with part of the garden wall incorporated into the gable end of the stable range to the north. The potting shed was built between 1893 and 1907, appearing on the Ordnance Survey map of 1907 but not on the map of 1892-3. Other structures at Corsewall, including a bridge, dovecot, farmhouse, main house, manor lodge, walls and gate piers, and stables, are listed separately. The garden is shown on the Ordnance Survey map of 1849 for Wigtownshire.
