Gate-Lodge, Ashley Bank, High Street, Langholm

The gate-lodge at Ashley Bank on High Street in Langholm is a late 19th century structure featuring Scots Baronial detailing. It stands two storeys tall and is built of bull-faced ashlar with crow-stepped gables. The lodge has two bays facing High Street, with the right bay being gabled. A door is set in a crenellated tall circular turret that is deeply recessed on the south flank. The southwest corner of the building is curved and corbelled to a square shape below the eaves. The windows are sash style with a 4-pane glazing pattern. The building has a corniced axial stack and a slate roof. The bull-faced walling extends north along the roadside, serving as a retaining wall, and curves to the southeast along the driveway, topped with decorated cast-iron railings.
