Description
26 Drove Road in Langholm is a pair of two-storey, three-bay houses built in the second half of the 18th century. The house on the western side was constructed first, and both houses are connected by a pend. They are made of rubble with ashlar dressings, although the dressings are interrupted on the original house where the pend arch was inserted. The buildings feature a continuous eaves and lintel band and have slate roofs.
The western range, which includes numbers 28 and 30, has a forestair with a plain iron handrail leading to a central first-floor door. There are windows in the outer bays and two doors at ground level, one of which has been converted into a window. The other doors are boarded and have rectangular fanlights above them. Most windows are sashes, with a four and twelve-pane glazing pattern, and there are brick stacks at the ends.
The eastern range, number 26, features a wide central boarded two-leaf door and a square window on the first floor. It has sashes throughout, with a four-pane glazing pattern, and small ashlar-built end stacks. The pend, likely built at the same time as the main range, originally had a wide depressed arch, which is now largely blocked. There are two doors on either side of the pend, one of which serves as a pedestrian entrance, and an enlarged window above the pend with a cill cut through the arch.
