Description
Shambellie Lodge and Gatepiers is a single-storey gate lodge built in 1863, designed in the Scottish Baronial style by architect James Barbour of Dumfries. The lodge is constructed from bull-faced white granite ashlar, featuring red sandstone ashlar dressings and crow steps.
On the north elevation, there is an off-centre porch and a linking left bay, both of which are advanced and gabled. The porch has a segmental-headed, roll-moulded doorway, while the left bay features a tripartite design. A crenellated bartisan is located over the north-east angle. The east elevation has two bays, with a bipartite design in an asymmetrically corbelled gable to the right. The windows are fitted with small diamond panes, and the roofs are slated. There are modern rear additions to the lodge.
The gatepiers are made of white granite and feature coped quadrant walls and chamfered square designs topped with pyramidal caps.
