Description
The Post Office and Warehouse in The Square, New Abbey, is a structure likely built in the second half of the 18th century, with later alterations in the 19th century that included the addition of a two-storey house and shop at the front. The tall four-storey and attic warehouse remains intact at the rear of the building.
The street-facing elevation is constructed from bull-faced white granite ashlar, featuring a mix of coursed and snecked stone, with contrasting red ashlar margins and dressings. It has three bays, with a central square-headed pend leading to the warehouse, a shop to the right that has bipartite windows above, and a house door with a ground floor window to the left. The building includes sash windows, most of which have four-pane glazing, and coped end stacks.
The warehouse itself is primarily built from white granite rubble and consists of two bays, with windows on each level, including small windows on the top floor, and doors incorporated into the design.
