Description

9 Argyle Street East in Helensburgh is a single-storey Scots Baronial lodge built in 1879. The building features an asymmetrical design with three bays, constructed from bull-faced cream sandstone with ashlar dressings. It has a base course, chamfered arrises, ashlar mullioned windows, and hoodmoulds.

On the south elevation, there is a fanlit doorway to the right with a roll-moulded surround and two-leaf panelled doors. To the left, there is a bipartite window. An advanced gable bay flanks the doorway on the right, featuring a bipartite window in the centre and a blind oculus with quatrefoil decoration at the gablehead.

The east elevation has two widely spaced windows. The north elevation includes a lower wing that projects and features a gabled dormer-headed window that breaks the eaves. The west elevation is blank.

The lodge mostly has three-pane sash and case windows for each light. It is topped with a grey slate roof, complemented by cream ashlar stacks with corniced and moulded cans.
