Millfield, 101 Sinclair Street, Helensburgh

Millfield, located at 101 Sinclair Street in Helensburgh, is a symmetrical villa built in the earlier to mid 19th century. It is two stories high and has three bays. The exterior features painted stugged rubble with ashlar dressings, a base course, and a gutter moulded as a cornice. The building includes quoin strips, chamfered arrises, and basket-arched lintels above single and bipartite windows.

On the south elevation, there is a flight of four steps leading to a fanlit panelled door at the center, which is flanked by a half-glazed vestibule door. The entrance is adorned with a decorative gabled timber porch supported by thin columns on pedestals with bell capitals and a finial. To either side of the entrance, there are bipartite windows, and three symmetrically arranged windows are located on the first floor.

The east elevation facing Sinclair Street features two widely spaced windows on both the ground and first floors, including a blind window on the left side at ground level. The north elevation includes a stair window and a single-storey service wing that projects from the center, along with a boarded door on the west side. The west elevation has a window on the outer left and a modern garage that abuts the building.

Most of the windows are six-pane sash and case, with four-pane lower sashes. The roof is piended and covered with grey slate, featuring a rendered corniced end stack on the right with tall cans.

Inside, the villa has cornices in the hall and reception rooms on the ground floor, and a black marble chimneypiece in the dining room. The property is enclosed by chamfered rendered piers with moulded caps and iron gates.
