Description
Cove House is an 18th-century small mansion that was substantially remodelled and dated 1844. It is a symmetrical building of three storeys and five bays, incorporating Tudor details. Wings extend to the north and east. The exterior is constructed of stugged ashlar with polished dressings and hood-moulds. A late 19th-century porch is set into the re-entrant angle, and a tall, round-headed stair window with intersecting tracery is above it, topped by a shallow gable with flues at the angles. Most of the windows are square-headed sashes with 12-pane glazing, although a 1st-floor cross-window remains. A cornice runs around the building, and there are end stacks with grouped square flues. The roof was formerly slated. The east wing is a single bay, while the rear wings are asymmetrical and exhibit an unusual corbel detail. A low court is located to the east, and a cantilevered stone stair has a cast-iron balustrade. A dated lintel is initialed "G.O." The building was noted to be in poor condition in 1987. Cove House is said to be situated on the site of Dunskelly Castle.
