Description
Kirkpatrick House is an 1852 farmhouse accompanied by a large steading to the northwest. The house, built in the style of Walter Newall, is a two-storey building with a basement and a roughly square plan. It has three-bay elevations with single mullioned windows, featuring sash windows with lying-pane glazing. A narrow, centrally placed door faces north, while the east-facing ground floor windows are situated within projecting square bays. The building is constructed of stugged red ashlar and has a piended slate roof with projecting eaves. Gatepiers mark the driveway.
The steading mostly consists of 18th and 19th century buildings arranged on two sides of the driveway. It is constructed of rubble and ashlar with slated roofs, and features tall ranges, many with attics contained below the eaves. A long barn to the north side of the driveway dates back to the 18th century and was heightened and extended eastward in the 19th century, incorporating a two-bay depressed-arched cartshed. An apsidal horsemill is also situated to the north. The ranges south of the driveway are arranged with regular bays and parallel ranges with gables facing the driveway; the range closest to the east features a full-height return, forming a courtyard to the east.
