Description
Grahamshill comprises a farmhouse dated 1862 and a courtyard steading to the northeast. All roofs are slate-covered.
The farmhouse is L-shaped and incorporates older elements. It is two storeys high with three bays, featuring an advanced gable on its left side and a central doorway with a panelled door and fanlight above. The facade is constructed of red ashlar with long and short worked dressings; the windows are sash windows with lying-panes, and the openings have hood moulds. Single and bipartite windows are present. The eaves are blocked, and the skews run horizontally over the angles, with end stacks, one of which has been rebuilt in brick. The rear elevation, facing the courtyard, is of rubble construction.
The steading’s construction spans the mid-18th to 19th centuries. A primary L-shaped block is present, connected to a range built along the roadside, which adjoins the farmhouse on its northwest flank. This section is mainly constructed of red sandstone, with a loft contained below the eaves, facing the courtyard. A free-standing, tall barn to the southeast of the house was built in the 18th century, using brick on stone footings.
