Description
This is a memorial, likely dating to around 1870, dedicated to Henry Scott Riddell, a poet. The memorial consists of a low, upright slab of polished grey granite, with scroll-like details on either side. An inscription panel is set into the south face. It stands on a stepped base constructed of red ashlar. The inscription reads "Erected to the memory of Henry Scott Riddell, poet, author of Scotland Yet, Born near this spot 23rd Sept. 1798, Died at Teviothead 30th July 1870." The memorial is listed at grade B for its group value, primarily due to its historical significance.
