Description

The site comprises the churchyard of the former Old Parish Church in Staplegordon, enclosed by rubble-built walls with a gate at the south. The walls contain mostly 18th and 19th century headstones, many of which feature good artisan sculpture. A pinnacled Gothic Maxwell of Broomholm burial aisle was formerly located within the churchyard but has since been demolished. Staplegordon parish was united with Wauchope in 1703 to form the parish of Langholm. Further details, including illustrations, appear in Hyslop's Langholm as it Was, 1912.
