Description
Kirkton House, formerly the Ewes Parish Manse, dates from the earlier or mid-19th century, although it likely incorporates earlier fabric. It is a two-storey building with an attic, originally of three bays, with a lower wing to the south and a taller wing to the rear (west). The main section is constructed of whin rubble with contrasting ashlar dressings. The front features a central panelled door surmounted by a fanlight, a fluted frieze, and a cornice. Single-pane sash windows are present throughout. Two hipped, canted dormers light the attic space; corniced end stacks rise from the roof, which is covered with graded slates. An unusually long outbuilding extends to the northwest, although it is not entirely of uniform construction. The building's Grade was changed from Category B to Category C(S) on 12th July 1988.
