Description
Murrayfield is a two-storey house that underwent alterations and additions between 1730 and 1850, primarily in the first half of the 19th century. The building is harled, featuring whitewashed ashlar margins and dressings.
The original house has a long rectangular plan, likely constructed as a single build, although it may consist of three bays on one side and three on the other, making it either five or six bays in total. It has chamfered margins, with upper windows linked to a wide eaves band, an eaves cornice, and straight skews. The end and central axial stacks have been rebuilt and feature paired diamond flues. A full-height piended central wing was added to the south, along with a porch in the west re-entrant angle. There is a recessed wing on the east gable and a rear wing at the east end of the north wall. A modern conservatory is attached to the west gable.
